RAIN CITY SKATEBOARD CONTEST 2007

Dec 1st - 2nd 2007, Larut Matang, Selama Rakan Muda Sports Complex, Taiping

I think Perak skateboarding scene has growing bigger and bigger than i have ever expected. If you don't believe than try to come to Taiping contest next time. Ok enough of mambling.... This time they had it "Open Category" and we had competitors from all over Malaysia not just skaters from small town or cities within Perak state but tons of them from KL, Selangor, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Penang and Kedah also joined this great competition. I was the emcee there and drove alone all the way from KL around 6 a.m and had a pit stop at my parent's in Ipoh then continue my journey and reach there about 12pm. Luckly the weather was ok than i was expected. Taiping was famously known as one of the city that had most rai . That's the reason why Taiping was known as Rain City.

The 1st day was pretty packed and we had about 50 contestants and most of them were really good. I can't recall who did the sickest trick but among the most attractive contestant was 9 years old Koya which is very brave and overall skated all the obstacle in the park and he's pretty much better than his elder brother Yuki (in my pont of view). Anyway, Adam Kepong did a switch 360 lipslide during his prelimary run which is pretty rad too. Am Cheras i think one of the skaters had almot a perfect run. Both Adam and Am Cher were gnarly skaters and they did all their run and tricks really fast. Even, the 3 brothers of Triangle Team was there too and they are killing it. A salute to their parents for supporting them in skateboarding and even drove all the way from Kajang to Taiping. The rest is average good and i think almost every competitors did really good that day. If you compare any contest from the mid 90's and today. It's totally different kinda thing. Kids nowdays are more aggresive than before. Fast learner too.

Oh well, i'm speechless... the first day was pretty tired. Bad things happended when Dane car was locked in and alarm key won't open it. Changed the battery an still can't open. The worst part is that Dane's car key can't used it to open the door only for starting the engine. It took us bout hours in the parking lot to settle it. We all had try almost everything to help Dane to get the door open. AThong try to unlock it with a fork, Amir, Mariss and Suresh were trying to get it done from the window. Some were trying to access it from the car boot but it's an old Merc so no way you can access from the back seat. Finally Suresh found a wire and managed to unlock the door. SYABAS!!!So we all left and spend the night in Taiping Motel. Then go out "makan"ing and guess what? We have waited for more than half an hour for our dinner. Nasib baik la sedap...Had few chat then went back to the motel and "tidur" time. Thanks to Amir for the cool, cool , cool aircond temperature that night. (continue next page)
