GO SKATE DAY , 2008

Shah Alam Xtreme Park , Shah Alam, Selangor
21st June 2008

Event organised and sponsored by Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA)
Managed by Hiker Climber / Crazeecausa

Saturday, 21st June, was a great moments for all of us. It’s a big day for skateboarders around the globe. More than 100 skaters and several hundred spectators turned out for the 1st time celebrating the 5th Annual International Go Skateboarding Day at Shah Alam in conjunction with the World Environment Day “Save the World” campaign.

After sang the Selangor and National song with the Doa recitation. The marathon began with skateboarders leading while others followed behind with escorts from the Police Traffic dept, marshals; MBSA vans, Medias, and others transportation. It was the only 1st time experienced for all Malaysian skateboarder by skating on the streets together. It’s a rarest moment. Just like any other rallies such as motorcycle or car rallies. But this was different and it was the 1st for skateboarder in Malaysia especially..

It was 9 am; hundreds of kids showed up and they were served with some light breakfast and drinks. For about half an hour later, all skaters with other spectators which includes bicyclist, skate scooter (??), and joggers were gathered together in front of the stage of Dataran Shah Alam 2 for some briefing given by Cikgu Nazri, owner of Hikers Climbers on safety; and among other things.

Skaters from age as young as 7 to 35 years old taking part in this 5km rally with 3 pit stop. The best part was the downhill ride. We all had the chances to skate 2 downhill roads and one uphill were everyone have to walk. The last downhill was the best because it was about 1.5km long and we bomb the hill till we reached the park. Many bailed during the last downhill road. But gladly everyone reached the park safely.

While waiting for the 2 major skateboard event at the park. Those who were participating for the rally again were served with drinks sponsored by 100 Plus and food from Pizza Hut and KFC. But only for those who registered and participated for the rally, where coupons were given earlier at the registration counter near the Dataran. Those who were not but only waited at the park, we are so sorry. Please showed up and joined the rally next time. Also many kids were asking “why weren’t there any pro skaters involved in the rally?” I think the only pro skater that showed up was Joe Ipoh, and old one like Naqi of Skate Malaysia and me; but not a single well known or local pro showed up. Okay I will leave these as a question mark. But what I heard from some skaters and friends; that some irresponsible of group or people spread a boycott message on this event to their surrounding friends. Claims that Crazeecausa stealing their ideas. Hey grow up!! We are skaters, and we all have planned something for GSD. Everyone in this world is organizing an event for GSD. Yet you guys have been blaming the wrong people. It was Hiker Climbers that appointed Crazee to do these events. I personally approached Mr Nazri and warn about GSD 3 months before. You guys boycotting for no reason. You guys should boycott those who rip-off your friends and other skaters. You know who they are!!!
