UNDER FEET Vol: 1 (VCD) Running time: 48min $???
Why is there an opening teaser of this skate video since I am watching the real video? I don’t get it? It’s says Under Feet vol: 1 coming soon... But isn’t this the vol: 1? The opening intro was a bit too long. It took me a while waiting for the skate part and that’s kinda bad for a start.

Anyway, this is your basic skateboard video magazine from Indonesia. They've got many sections which includes Road trip with Emotional Team, several skate demos and competition coverage from Volcom Skate Jam O’Rama in Yogyakarta, City Surf Open in Surabaya and various ISA competitions. They also have Check Spot with Eric Nipam (Wasn’t it Spot Check?), which is not really a good one as they only shown the same spot at Senayan. Also includes a day in life profile with Ardy Polly in “In My Lovely Day” section. His part was the only part that I wanted to see coz Ardy was an old school skaters there and he also ride pools and vert. He is also one of Indonesian Skateboard Association active members. Good to see some old skaters still kick ass. The rest were ok. There was like lots of commercials / ads at every ending part of each section. Most of the skating part did use some effects plus the slow motion effects just like the one in On Video skate video. At first it was really good, but it seems they have been using the effect like most of it and most of the section which is kind of bores me a lot, plus with the slow music. Talking bout music, they should have put out more of their local music as soundtrack instead of putting music from Moby, Gorillaz, Rufio, etc. I thought Indonesian have so many good bands? Don’t they? The night skating part using the night vision mode is a bad idea, plus they also shoots mostly on the backside angle of the skaters which is also a bad one. The ending / credits part were too long either. Plus they even showed some footage and info for the next issue. I think I saw Pa’Din caught in the action at the Volcom Wild in the Park. Overall, the skating is good. If you have not seen any skaters from Indonesia yet. Then you all should watch out for these few well known skaters in this video like Tony Fakie, Tony Sruntul, Indra Leonard, Rian Nuvianus, Reno Pratama, Rino Herman, Agung HB, and Rinron (this guy doing old school tricks like layback 50, 360 Bertlemen slide, FS Bertlemen to disaster). One more thing, the video resolution and quality is bad. Maybe they edited it in a bad video card computer. Just a guess…. Besides the DVD packaging style is nice. I would give South East Asia Video Magazine a chance since this is their first project. Hope the next issue would be much better.

HAPPEN MAGAZINE #11 (50 pages/B5 size) Free
I’ve got this magazine trade with a friend from Indonesia Skateboard Association at the recent Asian X Games in Korea. Its kinda mini magazine style, thick colored cover, good quality papers, most of the contents layout were in grayscale except for some ads. Cover also mentioning bout their 1st anniversary. So I guess they had been around for a year and this one was their 11th issue. The text was mostly in Indonesian and some mixture of broken English. Inside you will find the usual readers letter section, an interviews with local skaters; Ryan Novianus (which had been sponsored by Volcom Indonesia and awarded by the Surf Time Magazine as the best skateboarder 2005), and a short band interview with The Bikinie’s (an all girl band playing Swedish pop style). Some articles and good one’s like “For what reason do we skate?” (Worth to have this kind of topic to discuss for); tips on photography and others. Since they were celebrating their 1st anniversary, they even took the chances to included couple pages of viewing their own office, few snaps of their staff pic, plus showing the equipment they were using for the mag. I’m surprised that they had a large numbers of skaters doing these 50 pages of magazine. They could have done much better and maybe extended more pages. Indonesia is big and they can get many contributors from each state or city to make a real good Indonesian mag. But what will you expect from a free Indonesian skateboard magazine? Take it or leave it…

3X #12 (68 pages) RM5.50
This would be the first review of 3X in skatemalaysia. I have been collecting this mag since the pilot project issue and i have never missed an issue yet. They have been improving from every issue to another and i hope this mag stay pure and stay as long as the can in the scene.

Holding with me now is the 12th issue of March 2006 release with a nice front cover of Fuad Saifullah from HUYO skateboards doing a backside lipslide. The inside - Concerntrate more on skateboarding (well you know how 3X concept right?) and they did interview with cover skaters Fuad (plus a big pull out poster of Fuad and Boy JB at the other side), Man Extra from Johor, Zaire (in-line), and Atik (Bmx). As usual, the readers mailing section, tons contest reports, trick tips, etc. A bunch of Kecik Kepong poster as well. A good article from Pa'Din on making your neighborhood become a skatebale place (very DIY), a whole bunch of pics, more pics and more pics inside. Plus "the Truth" article of the media and The Police for the blindly attack of the independent hardcore punk scene for being "Black Metal" by Ian. A good article from both.

The mag needs more contents on articles concerning the local scene rather than bunch of interviews or perhaps they could extent more pages in the future. Well this is what i think...but personal, 3X did a great work for the local scene.

Well, If you need to know more what's inside the mag. Go buy it now. Don't borrow them. It's not worth it.
Buy it and keep it and read it again another day...Support your local scene yall...

STRUGGLE AGAINST - UNITY CD single
Running: 6min 30sec

Come all the way from Odense; the 3rd largest city of Denmark. I'm not sure any of you out there really dig hardcore music. I mean real hardcore style not those emo, screamo or metal-core fashion band-wagon. Struggle Against play 90's style of old school hardcore. Nothing compares to youth crew 88 type here but there's originality in their music. I would compare them to any European best hardcore bands like Mainstrike, Vitamin X, Soberesponse or just to name a few.

This CD comes with 4 songs; One More Time, Point Your Finger, United Again, and Perished. Mostly about the usual youth crew unity, friends, spirit lyrics. Well what you expect from a straightedge band... They always had something in common but that's not the idea. I mean as long as the band stay DIY and sincere and honest to the scene. Then it's fine with me. Well, before I end the review. Just a short info on Struggle Against, they have been around since 1999 and "Unity" was their first single. If you dig European old school HC then get Struggle Against!!! “In my heart, in my bones, In my blood, HARDCORE flows!!!
