SACC EXTREME COMPETITION 2006
(The most controversial event of the year)

2nd - 3rd September 2006,
SACC Mall, Shah Alam

It has been almost a year to have an extreme sports event organised in the city of Shah Alam. The last event in Shah Alam was on the "Hari Belia" held somewhere last year at Shah Alam Stadium and this time at SACC Mall, A new mall and guess what? This ain't no ordinary mall. This is where all the rich families of Shah Aam went for shopping and "makaning" hahaha... Ok, here's the story. SACC Mall hired an event company called EFY (Event Fully Yours) & Management to organised an event and they have rented few ramps and park items from a new company called Tri Form. Tri Form was also told to handle all the technical part which is the judging part, emcee, and stand by crew. While others handle by EFY. Anyway, i've heard that skaters can do practise and try outs of the park course since Thursday. I was informed that the park course has been set up at the side mall entrace since Wednesday night. Damn...

Early before the contest, there's a bit of arguement and misunderstanding within the contestant and the organiser regarding the registration fees. As were told and written in the flyers the registration fee were FREE except for those who compete in the Game of S.K.A.T.E (Winners take all). But now all contestant have to pay RM5 for each catogory (RM2 for Game of S.K.A.T.E). For me, this is unprofessional coz I was told that the registration are FREE but the organiser decided to charge RM5 after being told by someone (2 days before the event. Please take note he knew bout this 2 days before the SACC event) about the charges for registration fees during the event of Mellaca Merdeka Extreme Challenge which was held a week ago at Melaka Central. Well, if you changed your mind it's ok but not during the last minute coz everyone has spread the news of the event a week earlier. Everyone was well informed and you can't just go and changed everything in the last minute!!! That's one...Then another thing came up, the schedule was a bit messy. Why would you do a schedule without asking those experience professional extreme atheletes or extreme event management? Can you imagine that you were asked to have practice for bmx for 1 hour and then compete after 3 1/2 hours later (check the schedule below)? Why would they let someone warm up and then wait for another 3 1/2 hours later to compete? Why don't just let them compete after the warm up?

Please look at their schedule below (taken from their flyers):
10.00am-11.30am : skateboard practise (contestants)
11.30am-01.00pm : bmx practise (contestants)
02.00pm-03.00pm : sk8 & bmx (open for public)
03.00pm-04.30pm : sk8 prelims
04.30pm-06.00pm : bmx preims

Look at the time for skateboard practise and skateboard prelims. You stop warming up at 11.30am and then prelims at 3pm. That's 3 1/2 hours of waiting and resting. You need to warm up your body again, am i right? I've try to negotiate with the organiser crew so that we can shuffle and rearrange the schedules. At first they won't allowed it coz they said the time was fix with the SACC management. Then i've told them that i'm not asking to change time but just shuffle the skateboard prelims right after the skateboard practise session and then follow by bmx practise and bmx prelims. That's all i aksed. I know i'm not the oraganisers or the ramp owner but i'm part of it and i have the right to voice my views. If i were the contestant i would do the same. Besides, I'm a skateboader and have experience for many years. So then they called up their bos aka Bro. Muz. I think it took about more than an hour to settle down before the compeition starts. Guess what's next? They have another problems with the registration form. Skateboard should have 2 forms which is one for the best run and the other for Game of S.K.A.TE. As for BMX there's only one form but now they have 2 forms which is kinda confusing. Is there such thing as Game of BMX. I've told them to remove the forms (yela sapa lah aku) from the registration counter coz there are no such competition. Guess what one of the crew told me "Wait for my boss". I've told him "there's no use to asked him or wait for him. There's no such discipline". Also the form for skateboard is written skateboard freestyle (still exist here?? I don't think so). One more thing, the flyers said have pro demos. I was told by Tri Form that they (EFY) did not request for pro demos. Only renting the park course and technical.

Competition Summary
The park item for SACC is a 12 feet long rail, 2 feet high funbox with a rail, an ollie box or you can call it manual box; 5 feet high bank; 5 feet high quarter ramp; 3 1/2 feet high bin; and a barrel lay on the 3 steps stairs. Hell yes, today contest is more on street urban style. Most skaters will starts at the stairs. There's about 28 skateboard contestant and less than 10 bmxers competing. What do you expect from a last minute events and announcement? This is what you get so face it. Some skaters couldn't make it coz of clash of other event in Singapore. Again, before the first contest. They (EFY) did not provide any chairs and table for judges and technical staff (computer works for the points and others), no mic for emcee. They only take actions or noticed once we have informed and request from them. Yet and again the competition delayed. Let me asked, is this a well experience event company? I do hope EFY take this article as an example and post mortem on your weakness part.

Anyway today at SACC Mall we have many wellknown skaters coming from all over the country to compete each other in this competition and they are Usher, Fuad, Am Cher, Man Extra, Dane, Izzat, Fadhil, and many more. All skaters were given 2 runs with 60 seconds each run and there's only one judge. The judge for the competition is Ariff Budiman; a wellknown old school skateboarders from the late 80's. He had been judging a lot of competition since in he early 90's till early 2000. A big warm welcome to him and we are glad to have him back. Ok back to the contest. Our first rider was our Climax forum member Ja4Star. He did well in his run and not bad for a first timer (yup his first competition & also qualify into the finals). Am Cher did a lot of switch tricks on the rail and he even switch ollie over the bin, then came Usher with almost a perfect run. While Fuad is mad dog with his super stylish style and caught the judge in the eye. While Jojo from Shah Alam a mongo push skaters skate really gnarly and did everything fast and so rad. He did a super fast smith grind down the rail at the funbox and did a combo smith to 50-50 grind on the bar rail. Dane from Perak kinda a bit dissapointed during his run but really good while practise. He seems exhausted and Izzat also from Perak is one of the youngest contestant and he skate really cool and did a lot of switch tricks. No wonder he rides for Black Brigade and Cool Element. Man Extra the extra pop guy didn't perform really well as usual. But he did qualify into the finals. And lastly there's one kid you should look out for. I don't remember his name but he's from KL and kinda young too. Wear punk rock style skate look and he also got top 10 in the Malaysian AXG team qualify this year. I couldn't say more. This is skateboarding!!!

Final Results:
1st - Fuad
2nd - Jojo
3rd - Am Cher
4th - Usher

Game of SKATE
There are about 28 contestant for this game. All of them were devided into 8 groups and each groups have 3 skaters and 8 winners for these groups will macrh into the semi finals. In Semi finals there are only 2 groups. Each groups have 4 skaters and only 1skaters from each groups will march into the final round. The 2 finalist were Ijjat from Perak VS Usher. Ijjat maintain with his switch tricks but Usher did a lot of good tricks. In the last few letters for Ijjat. Usher pull a few old school tricks like one foot ollie, back foot ollie, airwalk, and then scarewalk (didn't see this tricks for about 14 years), and many more and i can't agree more. Usher is the king of Game of S.K.A.T.E (he also won this game at Melaka a week ago)

* Today 13th of September (2 weeks after the event). All winners still have not received their payment of the cash prizes as they've promised
